Coffee and Swedish
Tuesday, February 6th, 2007There is no connection between the coffee and Swedish. They are two different topics. I apologize if it has created any confusion.
Coffee:
I am sure you have heard lot of talk going about the Coffee and the McDonalds. Per the Consumer Reports McDonalds has a better coffee than even Starbucks. This has created a lot of hoopla both online and Radio. While coming to work this morning I was listening to the Radio station and the host was talking about the coffee and the various manifestations of it. He was taking the Starbucks side and I kind of agree on that and there were some callers who said that McDonald’s has the best coffee. To me when I first drank the Starbucks coffee it was the next best thing after the the sliced bread. It was truely different and the reason their coffee is kind of burnt because of the way they roast the bean. In the regular coffee from the Maxwells or Folgers, who do the medium roasting and then grind the bean but Starbucks does it slowly and completely and therefore they have richer taste. Apart from that I really like the “Kirkland” Columbian coffee available in the Costco stores. I brew it everyday and I cannot start my day without it. We were using Folgers and it was kind of okay but it was not strong. Then we saw this Kirkland Columbian coffee and decided to try that. When we tried it, it was good and we went with it. Everybody have their own likes and dislikes and we cannot come to a conclusion that this is the best coffee for all. Like people coffee has also evolved over a period of time and it should be left as such to evolve further.
Now the Swedish part. Recently, I got an email from my cousin about how the swedish work and it was interesting. Any project for the swedish takes more than 2 years while they debate, debate and hold many meetings and refine and resolve the ides till it is cooked. This creates a successful product. No wonder Nokia, Ericcson and Volvo produce best products. They promote what is called “Slow Down Culture”. This is becoming popular in the countries of Europe. The french work only 35 hours per week and the Germans do only 28.8hrs which has improved their productivity by 20%. Whereas the americans work more than 40 hours and some take work home during the weekend. As somebody said that America is driven by the “instant gratification” culture, we tend to go fast to complete the work without thinking that it may be premature. In this digital world, there could be many successes because of the fast time to market but many more die because they were half baked. So it is time that we take some note and see where we stand as the present is more important than the future or the past for which we cannot do anything about. Take this moment and enjoy it with the family, friends and live the life to the fullest extent. What do you think?
